Hey, there! Here we go again, my wonderful friends, followers, readers, colleagues, you all!
Thanks for coming and catching up with the latest news from my guests. 😊
As you can see, Alessandra, Emmanuele and Manuela are still here with me. They are ready to answer the second part of the questions of their interview.
They are the last featured guests for this year, so I just want to thank all of you for having followed this series so far. There will be a hiatus until January – when we all be back to work and we will resume assingments and projects.
Don’t worry, you could catch up with what you missed over the last three months by following my page. I will publish all the interviews again. 😊
In case you missed the first part of the interview with this great team, you can find it here.
I don’t want to waste another minute – I am so curious to know everything about you, so… let’s start!
• If you are not doing it already, which language would you like to learn?
▷ A: I’d love to learn Portuguese.
▷ E: Spanish is next 😀☺
▷ M: I’d like to keep studying Greek (I attended a course at the university) and Portuguese. I’d also love to study Japanese.
• Favourite idiom
▷ A: An idiom I use often is “pardon my French”. I don’t swear a lot, but as a proud linguist I simply consider swearwords as part of every adult’s vocabulary.
▷ E: There’s method in my madness.
▷ M: Actions speak louder than words.
• Favourite saying
▷ A: I’ll pick an easy one, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. And, let me add, wouldn’t it be beautiful to see the world with a different pair of eyes, every once in a while? [ **Of course. If you think over this series, it’s something like that that I’m aiming at. You can see things from a different perspective, through the eyes of other people.** ]
▷ E: You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.
▷ M: Can I say one of my favourite quotations instead? [ **Sure you can!** ] “Devo liberarmi del tempo e vivere il presente, giacché non esiste altro tempo che questo meraviglioso istante” Alda Merini (“I must be free from time and live the present since there isn’t any other time than this wonderful moment.”)
• Have you got a motto?
▷ A: As a motto, I can only think of something which is very well-known among Queen fans (see q. 33). Freddie Mercury once said: “Whatever you do, do it with style.” It can have a lot of meanings and can be applied to many situations.
▷ E: Every problem has at least two different solutions.
▷ M: Never ever give up.
• Does your name have any special meaning?
▷ A: My name comes from Alexander of Macedon (or The Great) and means “protector of mankind”. Boy, I start feeling the responsibility. 😊
▷ E: Yes, it should mean “Sent by God”. Funnily enough, I’m an atheist 😊
▷ M: Well, since we’ve got the same name… I was sent by God too. 😀
• Favourite genre of music? Name your favourite singer or band
▷ A: I’m a Queenie: a lifelong Queen fan. Freddie Mercury is my hero.
▷ E: I listen to a lot of genres, metal and rock above everything else. My favourite bands are In Flames and Opeth.
▷ M: Raised on rock! I grew up listening to my brother strumming Metallica’s and Nirvana’s riffs on his guitar. I listen to lots of different bands, from Creedence Clearwater Revival to Editors and Placebo but I’ve loved Muse since I was in high school.
• Best concert ever you participate in. Name the band/singer and the place.
▷ A: Brian May + Kerry Ellis, Union Chapel, London, 2013.
▷ E: Bon Jovi in Udine in summer 2011 was a real blast.
▷ M: Muse @DatchForum Assago, Milan 2006; Bon Jovi @Stadio Friuli, Udine, 2011, an amazing show of almost three hours!
• Can you share a song that is important for you?
▷ A: It has to be a Queen song, of course. And, since it just turned 40, it has to be “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
▷ E: There are too many! I’ll go with “Right Now” by Van Halen this time.
▷ M: “Drive”, Incubus.
• Favourite tv series – if you have one
▷ A: I was a Lost maniac, and I loved it until the end. I also love CSI, I think seasons 1 to 6 are just brilliant. My current favourite is Sherlock – I can’t wait for the Christmas special!
▷ E: Breaking Bad by a very large margin. Best show ever made.
▷ M: Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy… and the list keeps growing!.
• Are you a shipper?
▷ All: No
• Favourite film – if you have one
▷ A: An oldie but goldie: Highlander – There Can Be Only One. Yes, it has an excellent soundtrack, but I think it’s a beautiful, very original story.
▷ E: I’ll mention two: Into the Wild and Waking Life.
▷ M: There are some films I’m really fond of, because they belong to my childhood: the Back to the Future and the Indiana Jones trilogies and When Harry Met Sally.
• Favourite actor and actress
▷ A: I don’t have favourites, but I can literally get obsessed with an actor/actress. Right now, I’m living my Cumberbatch moment.
▷ E: Favourite actor: Jim Carrey. Fav Actress: don’t have one.
▷ M: Robin Williams, Hugh Jackman and Maggie Smith.
• If you were a Disney character, which one would it be?
▷ M: I’m the only Disney expert here. Definitely Rapunzel from Tangled – sometimes I feel like I’ve escaped a sort of tower to venture into the real world. Plus, I’m a little crazy like her.
• Do you like musicals? If yes, which is your favourite one?
▷ A: I love West End musicals. My favourite is We Will Rock You. I also loved Wicked.
▷ E: Not really my genre. I did enjoy Les Misérables a few years ago, though.
▷ M: Disney movies, of course!
• Have you got anyone inspiring you? If yes, who is your role model?
▷ A: As I said, my hero is Freddie Mercury. Another person I admire a lot is Brian May. Not only is he an excellent musician, but he’s also concerned with the animal welfare and inspired me when I decided to become vegan.
▷ E: Tiziana, my aunt and the person who raised me, is the closest to a role model that I can think of. [ 💜💜💜 ]
▷ M: It may sound cheesy, but my family. They taught me the importance of honesty, hard work and unconditional love.
• Describe yourself in 3 words
▷ A: I am sociable, cheerful and positive.
▷ E: Pragmatic, energetic, impulsive.
▷ M: Restless, sensitive, honest.
• If you could leave right now, where would you like to travel?
▷ A: I’d love to go to the UK. Anytime is a good time for a little visit to the UK for me.
▷ E: Either Australia or Brazil. 😊☺
▷ M: Andalusia. I’d like to see Granada again (and yes, eat old school paella).
• Write something about yourself you are truly proud of
▷ A: Again, I have to mention being vegan. Every day the pros of this choice prove to be far more than the cons.
▷ E: Always standing strong no matter what life threw at me.
▷ M: There was a time in which fears and anxiety had the best of me. Now I hold the wheel and drive. [ **I see what you did there 😉 #quotation** ]
• Give an advice to your younger self
▷ A: For my younger self: this career is definitely the right one for you but go study somewhere else! Another country, another city, it doesn’t matter: same faculty but different location.
▷ E: Be bolder, believe in yourself and take the initiative.
▷ M: You can’t be perfect and you can’t control the future: stop worrying, sit back and enjoy the ride.
• Have you got any tattoos? If yes, has it/have they any meaning?
▷ A: Yep! I’ve got a Freddie Mercury tattoo on my right shoulder.
▷ E: I haven’t got any =)
▷ M: I wouldn’t get one, but I appreciate the artistic side of it.
• Where would you like to live?
▷ A: I’ve always dreamed of living in the UK. I just love the country.
▷ E: I wouldn’t mind being on the road for a while so that I can pick a place. But there are places that make me feel at home already.
▷ M: Madrid. I’ve been there several times on holiday, and from the very first time, I don’t know, it’s just felt like home.
• If you were on a desert island, what would you bring with you? Name three things and say why you would picked them.
▷ A: Alone on a desert island. Yay! The perfect moment to unplug from reality. Me + books & music sounds just great. Wait. No power supply? Ok, third object is my return ticket. 😊
▷ E: I wouldn’t bring anything, because I like the idea of taking a break from this society of things that we are living in. I would see it as a challenge and take it. Now, if you told me that I could bring people, that’d be a completely different story: I’d want the right company for such an experience.
▷ M: My glasses (in case I lost my contact lenses), my ancient mp3 player and Hermione Granger’s enchanted bottomless bag, to cram in all the things I couldn’t bring with me! 😀😀
• If you could meet an important/famous person, who would he/she be?
▷ A: Hard question. Maybe the easiest answer is, again, Freddie Mercury.
▷ E: I’d like to meet the happiest man in the world.
▷ M: Jane Austen.
• What would you ask him/her?
▷ A: I’d certainly ask him what he thinks of the way he is still remembered and loved all around the world. But I can also imagine the answer, he’d probably say that we’re all fools and he’d have a laugh. 😊
▷ E: Teach me your ways, o wise one!
▷ M: I’d ask her lots of questions about her love life… I’m so curious!
Thank you, guys for this superexciting experience! I can’t believe that we have so much in common. I don’t speak of our tastes in music or favourite actors, but I refer to what we feel inside. We share a common ground, a deep understanding of what life is and what being proactive and focused mean. I really can’t explain how I feel right now. I hope that your energy will spread out and will reach the audience. I wish you all the best, I hope that your wishes could come true. You are part of my family. We have a tie that bind and I can feel it. Please, don’t ever change. Your strength lies in the energy you share as a team, and we all should learn something from this. Keep going, keep believing, and keep following your heart. Your true colours are really inspiring, I will treasure your answers forever.
